The first Courts of Art basketball court that we chose to tackle was the Eden Park basketball court in the reservoir area of the park. Surrounded by beautiful green space and scenery, the court was and is a perfect first spot to create our first playable work of art! While we felt our share of headwinds, we also felt strongly about the purpose of the work that we were doing. With a design that speaks to the history of Eden Park, the court has become not only safer to play on but also a key visible element adding to an already pristine surrounding.
The completed Eden Park basketball court brings the history of the park to life. From the blue in the keys (a nod to its reservoir beginnings) to the petals (a nod to the fence post designs throughout the park), the 3 point arches (bringing to life the reservoir walls) and the fence lines running the length of the court (mimicking the park’s old fence designs), the court draws your eye like it hasn’t before.
Eden Park is located just Northeast of downtown Cincinnati, surrounded by the Cincinnati Art Museum, the Krohn Conservatory, and the Mt Adams neighborhood.
This was our origin. Facing North, the court is overlooked by a walking trail and what is left of the Eden Park Station No 7 dam. But cracks, an uneven playing surface, and some holes under the basket made this an easy choice for renovation.
